That's looking good!

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Thanks guys. I'll be leveling and shooting the final coats this weekend so I'll post photos when I'm done in a couple of weeks.

Why do you think the two being a different color is a problem? They are rarely the same color. The woods are often not the same mahogany and certainly not cut from the same tree. In fact oodles of guitars have their necks color paste pore filled or stained, none of which I am of fan.

But all of this to say ... it is perfectly acceptable to have them be different colors. Now if you are bent sent on wanting them identical ... then that's a different story.

Well, I sometimes stain my mahogany necks to be a tad darker than my mahogany bodies. Its hard to go too wrong.

I'm a little late to the party, but I am glad you did not stain. Looks great!

Thanks, I'm happy with it. Should almost be ready to polish except I screwed up the body and had to sand back to the bare wood. Then I was on the west coast this last week so this one probably won't get done till the end of Jul. (insert resigned oh-well emoticon here).
